Chester Sua rushed for 209 yards and one touchdown on 30 carries Saturday and added a two-point conversion run to help Kaimuki hold off Kalaheo, 14-13, in O'ahu Interscholastic Association football action at Kaiser Stadium.

The Bulldogs improved to 5-1 overall and 5-0 in the OIA White Conference. Kalaheo, which did not play any nonleague games, fell to 3-1.

Sua's 2-yard TD run and subsequent two-point conversion run with 7:44 remaining gave Kaimuki a 14-6 lead, but the Mustangs cut it to 14-13 on Justin Pagan's 1-yard quarterback sneak with just under four minutes left. Their two-point conversion run, however, was smothered.

Kalaheo got the ball back five plays after the ensuing kickoff when Zane Lauriano recovered a fumble near midfield, but the Mustangs fumbled it right back with 1:30 remaining as the Bulldogs' Mike Moala recovered at the Kaimuki 43-yard line. Kalaheo called two timeouts and forced the Bulldogs into a third-and-3 situation, but Moala -- playing fullback -- gained seven yards for a first down and Kaimuki was able to take two knees to run out the clock.

The Mustangs had taken an early 7-0 lead, after they capitalized on a wind-blown 2-yard punt by the Bulldogs to gain possession on the Kaimuki 32. Pagan connected with Nainoa Frank on a 20-yard touchdown pass and Royce Baginski added an extra point with 9:46 still left in the first quarter. The Bulldogs cut it to 7-6 four minutes later on Dallas Reis' 21-yard scoring pass to Mason Kuali'i-Moe, but the PAT attempt failed.

That's how it stayed until Sua's go-ahead TD in the fourth quarter.

Kalaheo running back Jesse Carney, who set a state record last week with 374 yards rushing against Kalani, finished with 130 yards on 20 on Saturday.
