PAC-5 squeaks by Kalaheo for second win of year

The PAC-5 football team's first game in three weeks was a close one.

The Wolfpack built a 13-0 halftime lead and staved off a late rally by Kalaheo for a 13-6 win in an interleague Division II contest at Leilehua's Hugh Yoshida Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Punting seemed to be a problem for Kalaheo as PAC-5's Noah Sugimura blocked a punt with Laitin Bradley running in a 7-yard touchdown on the next play at the 2:27 mark in the second quarter. Bradley also has forced fumble and recovery in the game.

On the next drive, the Mustangs lined up to punt again but the snap sailed high and Ian Ishibashi recovered the loose ball in the end zone for another score to help PAC-5 improve to 2-1 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu D2 standings.

Jaden Amasiu scored on a 9-yard interception in the third quarter to lead the Mustangs (2-3 overall, 2-1 OIA D2) in the loss.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Kalaheo's Reggaen Eugenio was injured on a play and had to be transported off the field in an ambulance.

The Wolfpack will play fellow ILH-foe Saint Francis (3-0) 2 p.m. next Saturday at Aloha Stadium while the Mustangs will battle Pearl City (3-0) Friday night at Kailua High School.
