Visiting Damien cruises by Nanakuli

NANAKULI — Visiting Damien made it look easy Saturday night.

The Monarchs outgained Nanakuli 469 to 91 en route to pick up their second straight win with a 34-0 victory over the Golden Hawks in an interleague Division I contest.

Running back Aperamo Sulu helped Damien (2-0) rack up 320 total yards on the ground with 219 rushing yards and three scores on just 16 carries. By contrast, the Golden Hawks (0-3 overall, 0-1 OIA D1) rushed for only 23 total yards.

Duke Hoohuli threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Lindon Sevilleja on the Monarchs' first drive of the game to give Damien a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

Sulu then had TD runs of 7, 47 and 45 yards to give the Monarchs a 27-0 lead at the break.

A 1-yard TD run by River Iaea with 8:28 to play in the third quarter was the final score of the night.

Leading the Monarchs defensively was Kevin Edwards, who broke up three passes and recorded an interception. Jeff Buffett, Jonathan Dalmacio and Anstyn Kauhi also had sacks for the Damien defense.

Nanakuli turned it over on downs three times, with the first coming on a dropped pass in the end zone just before the end of the third stanza.

Rylen Yap accounted for over half of the Golden Hawks' offense, catching a game-high four passes for 50 yards

Kamren Arrington-Kaeo had four tackles for loss, two coming on sacks, to lead Nanakuli defensively.

The Golden Hawks will host Leilehua next Friday while Damien travels to take on Aiea.
