No. 15 Iolani trounces Kalani

HAWAII KAI — Iolani put up 35 points in the first quarter in a 63-0 rout of Kalani in both teams' season opening games at Kaiser High School's Ted Fukushima Athletic Complex.

Starting quarterback Jonah Chong completed all eight passes he threw for 136 yards, which included three touchdowns to three different receivers. Samuel Faumuina and Tate Shimao each added another aerial score in relief of Chong, who did not return after the first quarter.

On the ground, Kaua Nishigaya punched in two scores on 14 carries for 55 yards and Rexton Suzuki added another touchdown while finishing with 9 carries for 58 yards.

Defensively, the Raiders totaled 6 sacks and added a forced fumble and a 26 yard interception return for touchdown by Isaac Ignacio.

Kalani was outgained by Iolani 332 to 106.

Next up for Iolani is a home game against Waipahu at Kozuki Stadium on Aug. 11 at 3 p.m., while Kalani travels to Edward 'Skippa' Diaz Stadium at Henry Kusunoki Field to face off with Kaimuki on Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
