Kapolei outlasts Kalaheo in five-set thriller

Kapolei edged past Kalaheo in five sets, 22-25, 25-22, 16-25, 25-18, 15-11, at Jim Alegre Gymnasium Wednesday night to advance in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I playoffs.

The Hurricanes, the West No. 5 seed, moves on to face Waianae, the West's top-seeded team, Thursday in the second quarterfinal at the Seariders' gym. Waianae won the regular season meeting between the two teams, 25-22, 18-25, 15-13.

Zechariah Kanahele-Mone had 13 kills and Ezra Lono-Soares added 11 kills with five blocks and five digs to lead Kapolei (7-4) in the win. Keola Transfiguration was also solid with nine kills, seven assists and six digs off the bench.

Liam York had a match-high 23 kills with 17 digs to lead the Mustangs (8-4) in their season-ending loss.
