Pearl City plods past Kapolei

PEARL CITY — The Chargers capitalized on three errors to plate six runs in the fourth inning to plod past from Kapolei, 8-3, Wednesday afternoon in an Oahu Interscholastic Association matchup at their home field.

Christian Pacrem led Pearl City with two hits on the day, notching a double with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning. Pacrem later came across the plate to make it a 3-1 game after Cello Casarez reached on an error with two outs. Three singles, two errors, a walk and a pick-off attempt later extended the Chargers' lead to seven runs to end the frame.

Senior pitcher Cade Halemanu turned in his third complete game for Pearl City and lowered his earned run average to 0.72 with zero earned runs allowed to the Hurricanes while fanning nine batters. It was Halemanu's fourth win on the mound this season.

On the other side, Andrei Stoyanow dropped to 1-4 after giving up five hits and three walks, but he did strike out six batters and only one of his eight runs given up were earned.

Each team finished with four errors on defense.

Kapolei fell to 2-9 and can secure a spot in the OIA Playoffs with a win in its regular season finale against Mililani (7-4) on Friday, April 13.

Pearl City improves to 7-4 and stays tied for second place with Mililani in the OIA West. The Chargers finish the regular season with Waipahu (1-10) also on Friday.
