KAPALAMA HEIGHTS — Fifth-ranked Kamehameha erupted for five runs in the second and fourth innings to rout visiting Iolani, 12-0, in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu contest on the Warriors' field on Friday.

The Warriors remain on top the ILH standings with a 4-0 record while the Raiders drop to 1-3 in league play.

Freshman Isha Knight led the way for Kamehameha with a pair of doubles to bring in three runs and Maiah Motta went 2 for 3 at the plate and drove in a pair of scores. Five Warriors scored two runs each.

Reese Mokuau pitched five-complete innings with three strikeouts and scattered three hits to blank the Raiders for the win.

"Reese had a great output today and we need her to keep doing it. She's becoming more confident and she moved the ball around and threw some off-speed and hit her spots and the defense played well," said Kamehameha coach James Millwood.

Tausani Tavale singled and scored off Motta's hit and Dallas Millwood, who was intentionally walked twice in the game, came in to score after Shaylee Alani's single to right for a 2-0 lead.

"We had to try something. We're the underdogs and we're trying to fight. It hasn't worked in the past pitching so we had to try something different," said Iolani coach Dean Yonamine, on walking Dallas.

Alyssa Mahoe led off the second inning with a walk and Iolani pitcher Marley Dyer walked two more to load the bases. Kyler Stephens' shot to center jump-started the Warriors as Motta, Alani and Knight each followed up with hits that drove in runs as the Warriors led, 7-0.

"That's what we've been preaching: situational hitting, runners in scoring position. In the past we've been trying to go for the big ball all the time. We're trying to be disciplined and hit the ball where it's pitched and score runs," said coach Millwood.

The Warriors added five more runs to slam the door shut on the Raiders. Stephens reached on a fielder's choice, Motta added another single and Alani reached on an error. Knight's deep shot to right field brought in Bryana DeAguiar and Motta. Mahoe rewarded Knight by bringing her in and later scored off of Tavale's hit to right field.

"They showed good discipline today," said coach Millwood. "We were trying to teach them when there's runners in scoring position, what you want to do with the ball."

"They are a great hitting team. What are you going to do? You have to give them credit," said Yonamine.

Dyer was charged with the loss as the Warriors scattered 10 hits and scored 12 runs. She went 1 for 2 batting at the plate. Aleia Agbayani and Kailyn Barrett each added a hit for the Raiders.

Iolani has a quick turnaround to face No. 4 Maryknoll (2-0 ILH) at Sand Island Park on Saturday. Kamehameha has some time off before taking on Mid-Pacific (1-1 ILH) on Saturday, March 17.
