Castle's Fraticelli resigns as baseball coach

One game into the baseball season, Castle will be seeking a new coach for its program.

Rocky Fraticelli confirmed that he has resigned as varsity baseball coach. He turned in his resignation Friday morning, but agreed to coach the team's Saturday game against Roosevelt. The Knights won, 4-2. He cited the lack of explanation for the release of one of his assistants, his brother, Duane Fraticelli, earlier in the week.

"There was no due process," Rocky Fraticelli said.

Full-time assistants Kyle Nakakura and Kerry Okumura also resigned, Rocky Fraticelli said.

Rocky Fraticelli, a physical education teacher at Castle, also resigned as the school's assistant athletics director citing, "philosophical differences." He had been the baseball coach since 2012.

Castle athletic director Laynie Sueyasu confirmed that Duane Fraticelli was released from his position, but she could not share the reason for his firing. She added that Rocky Fraticelli's resignation letter gave no explanation for his sudden parting with the program.

Rocky Fraticelli cited complaints from parents as what got his brother fired but added "(The parents) are after me."

Sueyasu said the school is in the process of seeking a new coach. The Knights (1-0) host Kaiser on Wednesday. It is unclear who will be coaching the Castle team.

"We'll have somebody by then," Sueyasu said.
