ScoringLive has learned that Kahi Kaanoi has been offered the position of varsity baseball coach at Kamehameha, his alma mater, on an interim basis.

Kaanoi was a standout pitcher for the Warriors before graduating and being drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the seventh round of the 2000 Major League Baseball draft with the 197th overall selection. He played six seasons of minor league ball.

He had also previously spent time as an assistant on Kamehameha's JV staff in 2010.

Kaanoi, 35, replaces Tommy Perkins, who was relieved of coaching duties late last month, along with the rest of the varsity and JV staffs. Kamehameha compiled a 32-21 record in three seasons and reached the state tournament twice under Perkins.

The Warriors are coming off a 16-8 campaign and a semifinal appearance in the Division I state tournament.
