Punahou wins 4th straight boys paddling title


Punahou boys raised the trophy to celebrate their fourth consecutive state title. Pete Caldwell

Punahou won both the boys and girls divisions of the 2018 Hawaiian Airlines/HHSAA Canoe Paddling Championships held at Hilo Bay.

The Buffanblu boys took home top honors for the fourth consecutive year with a race time of 3:45.10, while the girls claimed a state crown for the first time since 2015, with a winning time of 4:16.64.

Seabury Hall became a three-time winner of the mixed crew division, crossing the line with a time of 3:57.76.

With the mixed crew win, Spartans' Taysia Pimentel and Kaya Givensel earned four gold medals in paddling in their career (3 mixed, 1 girls), more than any other girl paddler in tournament history.
