Maryknoll, Waiakea to meet in Division I semis

Maryknoll and Waiakea are set for a collision course.

After their quarterfinal wins, the two teams will face off in the semifinals of the Snapple/HHSAA Division I Girls Basketball State Championships Friday night at the Neal Blaisdell Center Arena. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.

To get there, the Spartans dominated KS-Maui for a 67-28 win while the Warriors rallied to beat Kalani in overtime, 55-54. Both games were played at Moanalua's Gymnasium Thursday night.

Maryknoll, the top-ranked team in the state and in the tournament, jumped out to a 18-0 lead and never looked back in its win over the Warriors. All 17 players that checked into the game scored points for the Spartans.

Kamalu Kamakawiwoole led the way with 11 points and 11 steals while Chayse Milne added 10 points and two treys off the bench.

Kimani Fernandez-Roy had seven points and seven rebounds to lead KS-Maui in the loss.

In the earlier quarterfinal, Waiakea was able to outlast fourth-seeded Kalani in a thriller.

Jazelle Dorser led the way with 21 points and 11 rebounds while Kelsie Imai added 14 points and the Warriors' only made 3-pointer.

Alayna Akiona led the Falcons in the loss with 20 points. She also sank a 3-pointer to force overtime.
