Strong start powers Saint Louis over Iolani, 3-0

KALAEPOHAKU — The Saint Louis boys soccer team is on the rise.

The Crusaders scored all of their goals in a 11-minute span in the first half to down visiting Iolani, 3-0, Monday afternoon in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu contest.

"This feels good because (in) my whole high school career, we never beat Iolani once," said junior Skyler Goo, who had a hand in all of the Crusaders' goals. "(Coach) just told us to be ready. Don't come out slow and be prepared for (Iolani) to possess the ball, and (we need to) just attack fast in the beginning."

It was Saint Louis' second straight shutout win as it improved to 3-0 to keep pace with Punahou (3-0) in the league standings.

"Iolani has a really good attack and all, but our defense has just been really great this year," said senior Daunte Mangiarelli. "We've just out here killing it."

The Raiders dropped to 0-2.

The Crusaders got the scoring going in the 21st minute when Goo assisted on a Andrew Preusser goal. Goo collected the ball inside the 18-yard box, dribbled in, then passed it to Preusser who found an opening away from the Iolani keeper. Preusser then tapped the ball into the back of net to make it a 1-0 game.

Goo got into the scoring column two minutes later after he intercepted a pass by an Iolani player at midfield. He then passed it up to a teammate, who then sent it back to Goo after drawing attention from multiple Iolani defenders. After receiving the pass, Goo dribbled past one Iolani defender and took a shot from 20 yards out while being surrounded by five Iolani players. His shot went up and over the Iolani keeper and the Crusaders went up by two scores.

Saint Louis completed its scoring in the 32nd minute when Goo sent up a pass to Mangiarelli, who then dribbled it just inside the 18-yard box before hitting a chip shot.

"My teammate Skyler, he played a great ball through and all I really had to do was go up there and kick it," said Mangiarelli.
