KALIHI — A day after falling in a five-set heartbreaker, Le Jardin bounced back over Damien to win its first Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II girls volleyball championship. The Bulldogs toppled the Monarchs, 25-18, 25-20, 24-26, 25-22, Wednesday evening in the ILH D2 second round tournament finals at Damien Memorial School gym to lay claim to the overall league title.

It was the third match between the two schools within the last six days.

The two teams met last Friday in the winners bracket finals in which Le Jardin won 25-23, 25-14, 16-25, 25-20.

Damien defeated Sacred Hearts, 25-13, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, last Saturday night to advance for a rematch against the Bulldogs.

The Monarchs gave the league's round one winners their first loss of the season in a 25-22, 25-23, 19-25, 18-25, 17-15 thriller. Damien would have had to defeat Le Jardin Wednesday night, and then again Thursday night in what would have been an ILH overall title playoff match.

The defending D2 state champions finish the regular season at 13-1 and will have a seeded berth in the Hawaii High School Athletic Association D2 girls volleyball state championship tournament next week.

Damien (11-6) was set to battle Hawaii Baptist (10-4) on Thursday to determine the ILH's No. 2 and No. 3 seeds for states, but the Monarchs have forfeited that match. That leaves the Eagles with the No. 2 seed and the Monarchs with the No. 3 seed.

Sacred Hearts (9-6) will have the ILH's fourth and final berth in the 12-team state tournament.
