Seariders clinch state berth with win over Castle

2016 Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II champion Waianae has made a seamless transition into Division I.

The Seariders (10-2) outlasted Castle (10-2) in four sets, 25-21, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23, Thursday night at Kapolei's gymnasium to advance to the league's D1 semifinals.

Eight different players had kills to power Waianae's victory. Kamilla Marinas and Cherish Borge each had nine kills while Jasmine Fonoti added eight kills and three total blocks to lead the Seariders' main hitters.

Waianae will play Kapolei (11-0) next Monday night in the second D1 semifinal at McKinley's Student Council Gymnasium. Both teams have already clinched a berth into the D1 state tournament.

Tiari Hookano had double-double of 10 kills and 14 assists to lead the Knights in the loss.
