Pearl City rolls by Roosevelt, 42-0

HALAWA — Pearl City rolled by Roosevelt, 42-0 in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II game at Hawaiian Tel FCU Field at Aloha Stadium on Saturday.

After dropping the opener to Lahainaluna, the Chargers, ranked fourth in the Hawaiian Electric/ScoringLive Division II Power Rankings, improve to 2-1 overall, 2-0 league. The 10th ranked Rough Riders drops to 1-1 overall, 1-1 league.

Pearl City had 240 net yards of offense, with 165 yards of net rushing. Carter had 69 yards on 11 attempts in the first half and finished with 81 yards for the game.

Isaiah Asinsin threw for 81 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another.

The Chargers opened the game with a 10-play, 69-yard scoring drive. Of the 10 plays, eight went to Andre Carter, who finished the drive with a 1-yard score.

Zion Tupuola-Fetui was a menace on defense and dropped Chris Molina-Kalamau on a punt attempt on the Rough Rider 3-yard line to set up the Chargers for prime scoring position. Two plays later, Asinsin kept it for a 2-yard TD with 4:50 left in the first quarter.

The Chargers held the Rough Riders to 67 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers, two of them were recycled for scores.

Pearl City followed up with another 11-play scoring drive. Asinsin's only pass of the drive was a 35-yard completion to Micah Quillopo-Jamile to the Roosevelt 10. Makoa Cooper found the end zone in two rushing attempts for a 21-0 lead.

Alihikaua Rodrigues sacked Shastyn Kekahuna for an 8-yard loss to turn it over on downs. Asinsin extended the drive with a 21-yard completion to Cooper and the Chargers used some trickery as Quillopo-Jamile threw a 4-yard TD to Tupuola-Fetui.

Sione Uluave forced a fumble and Rodrigues recovered the ball, and Asinsin immediately found Thomas King for a 16-yard TD with 2:54 left in the half to make it 35-0. Rodrigues' second fumble recovery resulted in a 21-yard return for Pearl City's final score of the night.

Second half started with running clock. Roosevelt's deepest scoring drive came near the start of the fourth quarter. Kekahuna completed a 16-yard pass to Nicholas Ogata to the Chargers' 8, however, on the next play Kasey Kikuyama intercepted the pass in the end zone to preserve the shut out.
