Iolani made quick work of visiting Waianae in its first state tournament appearance since 2010.

The Raiders defeated the Seariders in straight sets, 25-6, 25-17, 25-14, in the opening round of the New City Nissan/HHSAA Division I state tournament at Iolani's Upper Gymnasium Monday night.

Iolani, the Interscholastic League of Honolulu runner-up, move on to face third-seeded and Oahu Interscholastic Association champ Mililani Thursday night in the second quarterfinal match at Radford's Jim Alegre Gymnasium.

The Raiders recorded 11 total aces in their sweep of Waianae. Cole Hogland led the effort with three points from the service line.

Ryan Van Cantfort led the attack with 10 kills while Hogland added eight more.

Waianae hit -0.863 for the match and committed five service errors. Blaze Kahikina had four kills, six digs and three blocks to lead the Seariders in the loss.

Iolani used two 9-0 runs to throttle the Seariders in the opening game. The last two sets were much closer as the Raiders gave their reserves some playing time.
