MANOA - No. 7 Maui sent 10 batters to the plate in a six-run third inning to down No. 10 Mililani, 12-2, in an opening-round game that ended with two out in the bottom of the fifth because of the 10-run differential mercy rule Wednesday.
The Sabers (11-5) will face top-seeded and No. 1 Saint Louis in Thursday's quarterfinal, 7 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium.
Jyrah Lalim's bases-clearing double highlighted the six-run inning. Kao Mindoro drove in two runs, including the game-ending RBI single that scored courtesy runner Aidan Vigneux from third after Bryant Nakagawa tripled in a run.
Maui winning pitcher Treston Carter went five innings, allowing two runs (one earned), five hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
Mililani starting pitcher Shane Griffin lasted two-plus innings and was charged with six runs (five earned) and six hits.
Mililani (8-8) committed five errors accounting for four unearned runs.
