Defending champ KS-Hawaii is top seed in D2 tourney

Defending Division II state champion Kamehameha-Hawaii, of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation, will be the top-seeded team in the Division II state tournament which kicks off Thursday at Hans L'Orange Park.

Oahu Interscholastic Association champion Waianae is the No. 2 seed with Interscholastic League of Honolulu champ Damien seeded third. Molokai, the Maui Interscholastic League winner, is the No. 4 seed in the eight-team tournament.

The quarterfinals of the tournament will be an all-day affair at Hans L'Orange Park with the semifinals to be played at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium at the University of Hawaii at Manoa on Friday. The last two teams in the tournament will play for the championship on Saturday 4 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium.

The first game of the tourney has the Farmers taking on Kauai Interscholastic Federation champion Kauai at 11:30 a.m. The Red Raiders have won the D2 State Championship twice since the two-division format was implemented in 2008.

The Seariders will then face BIIF runner-up Hawaii Prep at 2 p.m. while the Warriors challenge Radford, the OIA runner-up at 4:30 p.m.

The final game of the opening round sees Damien taking on Farrington, the OIA third place team, at 7 p.m. in the school's first-ever state tourney apperance.
