Defending league champion Kapolei extended its season with a 10-9 win over host Kaiser in the opening round of the Oahu Interscholastic Associaiton Division I playoffs Wednesday afternoon.

The Hurricanes, who were also the Division I state runner-ups in 2016, will move on to face top-ranked Pearl City in the quarterfinals on the road Thursday.

Pearl City Swept Kapolei in their two regular season matchups. Their first game on March 11 was tied at the end of seven innings, but the Chargers put up six runs in the top of the eighth to go on to win 9-3. On April 6, Pearl City won 6-1.

The winner of this matchup will clinch a state berth and move on to the OIA Playoffs semifinals to play the winner of Campbell-Kailua.

The loser will have a chance to play for fifth place in the OIA. They would have to play the loser the Sabers-Surfriders matchup, and a win that game would put them in the fifth place game and a spot in the state tournament.
