OIA Softball playoff matchups finalized

After a thrilling week of playoff baseball in the Oahu Interscholastic Association, it's time for the ladies to take center stage.

The OIA Division I 12-team postseason tournament kicks off Wednesday while the six-team Division II playoffs begins Thursday. Both championship games will be held at McKinley's Tiger Softball Stadium on Saturday with the D2 title game starting at 5 p.m. and the D1 final to follow at roughly 7 p.m.

The top six finishers in the D1 tourney will qualify for the state tournament. Each of the winners of the quarterfinals round will earn a spot in the state championship while the losers of those games will battle it out for the last two remaining spots, as well as fifth place in the OIA.

Pearl City (W1), Roosevelt (E2), Mililani (W2) and Kailua (E2) will all enjoy first round byes in the D1 playoffs.

The Surfriders (9-3) earned the OIA D1 East's No. 2 seed after winning a coin flip with Moanalua (E3, 9-4). They will host the winner between defending state champion Campbell (W3) and Kalaheo (E6).

Pearl City finished with a 9-2 record atop the OIA D1 West and will host the winner between Kaiser (E4) and Kapolei (W5) on Thursday. The Chargers had a rescheduled game against Waianae (1-10) on Monday, but since it does not affect the current standings, it will not be made up.

Mililani will take on the winner between Moanalua and Nanakuli (W6) in the quarterfinals, and the Rough Riders will host the winner between Leilehua (W4) and Farrington (E5) on Thursday.

For Division II, the top four teams will represent the OIA in states. The top two seeds No. 1 Aiea (11-0) and No. 2 Kalani (10-2) will enjoy first round byes and are sitting pretty in the semifinals with state berths already locked up.

The two first round games has No. 5 Waipahu (4-6) traveling to Kaimuki (8-4) on Thursday, while No. 6 Waialua (4-7) travels to No. 3 Radford (8-3).

Aiea — the OIA D2 runner-up in 2016 — will host the winner between the Marauders and Kaimuki on Friday while Kalani will face the winner between the Rams and Waialua.
