OIA playoffs matchups finalized

Postseason baseball in the Oahu Interscholastic Association kicks off this week with the 12-team Division I playoffs starting on Wednesday and the six-team Division II tournament beginning on Thursday.

Both championship games will be held at Les Murakami Stadium at the University of Hawaii at Manoa on Saturday with the D2 title game beginning at 3 p.m.

The two D1 semifinal games will also be held at Les Murakami Stadium, with the first game beginning at 4 p.m.

The top six finishers in the D1 tourney will qualify for the state tournament while the top three teams in D2 will represent the OIA in the state tourney.

Campbell, Kalani, Mililani and Kailua will all enjoy first round byes in the D1 playoffs.

The Sabers, who went undefeated in OIA D1 West play with a 12-0 mark, will host the winner between Aiea and Kaiser on Thursday. The Cougars finished fourth in the OIA D1 East with a 7-5 mark and will host Aiea (5-7) in the first round.

Kalani (9-3) will await the winner of the first round matchup between Kapolei (6-6) and Castle (2-10). The site of this quarterfinal match up is to be determined as the Falcons were without a home field this season.

Moanalua (7-5) is seeded third from the OIA D1 East and will host Waipahu (4-8) Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. The Marauders are fortunate to be in the playoffs after winning a coin flip with Leilehua (4-8) for the OIA D1 West's sixth and final spot in the playoffs. The winner between Na Menehune and Waipahu will travel to Mililani (6-6) on Thursday.

The last first round matchup has Roosevelt (6-6) traveling to Pearl City (5-7) on Wednesday. The winner of this contest will take on defending OIA D1 champion Kailua (10-2) the following day.

The two first round games in the OIA D2 playoffs has Kaimuki (4-6) traveling to Nanakuli (4-6) while Kahuku (3-7) takes on Farrington (8-2) at Desa Field. Both games are on Thursday and will begin at 3 p.m.

Waianae (10-0), who went undefeated in league play to claim the top seed in the D2 playoffs, will host the winner between the Bulldogs and Golden Hawks in the D2 semifinals, while Radford (8-2) will take on the winner between the Red Raiders and the Governors at Donald M. Kimura Field Friday afternoon.
