Saint Francis throttles Damien, 12-4

Saint Francis jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, then used a six-run fifth inning to put Damien away in both teams' Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II opener at Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park Friday afternoon.

Makana Poole batted 2-for-3 with a triple, double and three runs to power the Saints (1-0) in their big win. Shawn Ellis batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two doubles and Bubba Akana went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to round out Saint Francis' leading batters.

Saint Francis started Zach Alcos scatterd three hits with four strikeouts across four scoreless innings before giving way to Kiyo Perry in the fifth. Perry lasted 2/3 innings and was pulled in favor of Poole after letting up three earned runs.

Damien's Javin Cortez was charged with the loss. The Monarchs (0-1) leading batter was Kaimana Cameron, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Other key players for Damien include Jayden Cabbab, who plated two runs on a double.
