Pearl City boys, Maryknoll girls take home state bowling titles

Pearl City continued its dynasty over the boys ranks while Maryknoll won its first-ever girls state title in the 43rd annual Billy Tees/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Bowling Championships 

Led by individual boys champion Kristopher Yadao, the Chargers won their seventh straight — 12th overall — boys team title with a total score of 7,945 last weekend at Leeward Bowl. 

Mililani had the next highest team score with 7,839 pins.

Yadao, who won his second straight individual title, finished with a total score of 1,875. Senior teammate Imi Nakamura had the next highest with 1,744 pins.

The Spartans edged Moanalua of a score of 6,988 to 6,966 to win their first girls state championship in school history. Maryknoll's title win ended a five-year run by the Pearl City girls.

Leilehua junior Gwen Maeha repeated as the girls individual champ with a score of 1,614.

It was the first time since 2001 that the state tournament was held at Leeward Bowl.
