Breault, Cantillo pick Oregon, Kentucky for baseball

Two prospects for next year's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft have recently made collegiate verbal commitments.

All-Hawaii pitcher Joey Cantillo of Kailua and Hunter Breault of Kamehameha will be playing Division I college baseball at Kentucky and Oregon, respectively.

Breault, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound right-handed pitcher, will be joining Campbell right-hander Markus Ramos, who verbally committed to the Pac-12 school as a sophomore. Breault was 1-1 with one save and an earned run average of 2.76 for the Warriors last season.

Breault listed a number of schools that offered him scholarships, including Hawaii, San Diego, Kansas, Arizona, California, BYU, Loyola Marymount and Kentucky to name a few. He also listed 10 Major League teams that have contacted him.

"I took a (recruiting) trip there and it looked like a place I could see myself playing for a program," Breault said.

Cantillo, a 6-4, 220-pound left-hander, was 5-1 with a save and a 1.23 ERA for the Surfriders last season He had 51 strikeouts to 17 walks in 39 2/3 innings pitched.

He said he had 12 college offers, but narrowed down his choices to UC-Santa Barbara, Texas Tech and Kentucky. He also has been contacted by a number of MLB teams.

"It's a big school I wanted," he said. "It's (in) the SEC (Southeast Conference). They play great competition."

Breault and Cantillo both drew interest from colleges and MLB teams while pitching in the Area Code Games over the summer.

The two, as well as Ramos, will be busy next month. They will take part in the Arizona Senior Fall Classic with Team Hawaii from Oct. 13-16 and then at the Perfect Game WWBA World Championships in Jupiter, Fla, from Oct. 19-24.

Also, the Perfect Game website listed Punahou outfielder Cole Cabrera committing to Cal Poly. He hit .356 for the Buffanblu last season.
