MILILANI — Behind Hope Carter's 22 assists, Mililani swept Aiea, 25-10 and 25-18 to keep their 24-game regular season winning streak alive in an Oahu Interscholastic Association West division showdown at Mililani's gym on Tuesday night.

"It's a great feeling, last year they were a tough contender and this year we want to stay on our own track and make it as far as we can especially how young our team is so this win was everything," said Carter, a senior setter.

"This was huge. Every time we play Aiea, it's a good game because every ball will keep coming back and they have a good attack," said Mililani coach Val Crabbe.

Mililani (7-0) remains at first place in the West standings, while Aiea drops to 5-1 and is tied with Kapolei, also at 5-1.

Carter was able to distribute the ball effectively to her attackers as Ashley Pawlak led the team with six kills and a block, Starr Sergent and Falanika Danielson added five each.

"Over the years we had one hitter that we go to, but this year we're versatile and we have girls who can hit and play. If we can distribute the ball more, it will give us an advantage," said Carter.

"It was nice for our middles and we had more middle attacks," said Crabbe.

The Trojans were able to capitalize on Aiea turnovers to take a 11-5 lead early prompting the Na Alii to call timeout. The Trojans went on a 6-1 run as Aiea called another timeout. Mililani outscored Aiea, 19-5 to end the set with Katie Asbery's service ace.

"We used their mistakes to our advantage. Everyone had that energy going and it put us in the lead," said Carter.

"Our serving was pretty good and we tried to limit the errors," said Crabbe.

Mililani continued where they left off to start the second set 4-0 and later took a 14-7 lead. Mililani started pulling away, but Aiea battled back led by Leslie Mamai-Lagafuaina who had nine kills for the game. The Na Alii got within five, but the Trojans were able to put it away winning, 25-18.

"They are tough on defense and dig a lot of balls. You can hit a lot of balls, but the ball keeps coming back," said Crabbe.

Mililani goes to Radford (2-3) on Sept. 22, while Aiea hosts Kapolei to determine second place on the same night.
