Damien overwhelms Pac-Five, 40-27

Marcus Faufata-Pedrina threw five touchdown passes to lead the Monarchs to a 40-27 win over Pac-Five at Aloha Stadium on Friday night.

Shaun Apiki caught a 6 yard TD pass from Faufata-Pedrina, which gave the Monarchs an early lead in the first quarter. Apiki was on the receiving end of two more scoring tosses from Faufata-Pedrina and finished with four receptions for 29 yards on the evening.

Faufata-Pedrina's pass to Jett Uechi was intercepted by Kaikea Gonsales with 0:18 left in the first quarter, the only blemish to what was an efficient game from the Monarch's signal caller, who completed 11-of-19 passes for 123 yards and added 51 yards on the ground on 12 carries.

Monarchs' running back Justice White gained 149 yards on just 16 carries, which included an 18 yard touchdown scamper.

Pac-Five (0-1 ILH, 2-1 overall), did not score until the second quarter when quarterback Ryan Johnson plunged in at the one-yard line to trim the margin to 14. Johnson later tossed a 13 yard scoring pass to Uechi that made it a 28-13 game at halftime.

The Wolf-Pack closed the gap to single digits when Grey Ihu caught a 49 yard touchdown pass from Johnson with 4:29 left in the third quarter, but the Wolfpack would not get any closer.

Faufata-Pedrina threw a 36-yard TD pass to James "Kapilioha" Livingston-Lopez at the start of the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 34-19 and Apiki third scoring catch of the evening to put the Monarchs up 40-9.

Johnson's 58 yard hook-up with Ihu capped off the scoring at the 1:37 mark in the fourth.

The Monarchs improved to 2-0 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH) Division II (4-1 overall), and totaled 428 yards of offense.

The Wolf Pack racked up 351 yards of passing but lost 24 yards running the ball.

Pac-Five will face off with Saint Francis back at the stadium on Sept. 16, with Damien taking on the Saints on Sept. 23 following a bye week.
