MANOA — Defending state champion Campbell open up its title defense with a 15-0, mercy rule win over Kealakehe at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

The second-ranked Sabers batted around the lineup in the first two innings to back Elisa Favela's eight strikeouts in the first round of the DataHouse/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I Softball Championships.

Campbell moves on to take on second-seeded Kamehameha in a 7 p.m. quarterfinal Wednesday.

Cydney Curran batted 3 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored to lead the Sabers' effort at the plate. Also registering three hits was Darien Robinson, who was perfect at the plate with one RBI and one run.

Favela helped her own cause and batted 2 for 3 with a solo home run in the third inning to Campbell a 13-0 lead. She gave up two hits in her sixth win of the year and just faced one batter over the minimum.

Kiara Cantiberos took the loss for the Waveriders, giving up 14 hits and 13 runs in just three innings of work.

The only players with hits for Kealakehe were Breianna McLeod and Kawehi Kahele.
