Pearl City remains unbeaten with 5-2 win over Aiea

Pearl City got off to a quick start to down host Aiea, 5-2 to remain perfect atop the Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division standings Tuesday night.

The Chargers scored three goals within the first 28 minutes of the match to improve to 8-0 in league play. Na Alii suffered its first loss of the year and dropped to 6-1-1.

Sophomore Daelenn Tokunaga got Pearl City on the board with a goal in the 8th minute, her 18th of the season. The Chargers pushed their lead to 3-0 thanks to two goals by speedy freshman forward Sunshine Fontes in the 16th and 28th minute.

"Our main goal tonight was to put pressure," said Pearl City coach Frank Baumholtz.

Aiea senior Sara Olanda stopped the string of consecutive Pearl City scores with a goal in the 29th minute.

The Chargers led 3-1 at the half.

Pearl City senior Brittny Ihara scored her first goal of the season in the 42nd minute to extend the team's lead. Junior midfielder Randi Fontes closed out the Chargers' scoring with a goal in the 63rd minute.

Aiea freshman Samantha Schafer capped the match's scoring with a goal in the 66th minute, her 2nd of the season.

The Chargers will travel to Kapolei on Thursday while Aiea will take on Mililani (7-1) on the road in a game that could determine who will be second place in the division.
