Moanalua added another win to their early season boys volleyball record (4-0) by defeating a game Kailua team, 25-19, 25-21, in a match played at the winnerʻs gym.

Playing without their leading hitter, Austin Matautia (on a mainland recruiting trip), the Menes were not at their best in taking care of the Surfriders (1-3), whose big front line put up a good block at times.

With a relatively young squad with only 5 roster seniors, Moanalua made some uncharacteristic rotation errors and other mistakes that left head coach Alan Cabanting less than pleased.

"We are doing well without our ace hitter but our inexperienced kids still donʻt know where they need to be and weʻre still figuring that out," said Cabanting. "Other than that weʻll be fine and are progressing well."

Nevertheless, the Menes got to do some post-match sprints just as a reminder.

Karson Cruz and Kamalu Kaaa led the Moanalua team in kills with 6 each.

Next weekendʻs Iolani tourney and a possible clash with defending State champion Punahou will be a good test for the OIA East leader.
