Pearl City tops again in state bowling

Pearl City won both the boys' and girls' team titles at the third and final day of the Billy Tees/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Bowling State Championships at KBXtreme in Kailua-Kona Saturday.

The Chargers beat out fellow Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division-rival Kapolei by nearly 400 pins for the boys' crown. Hawaii Baptist was third, Aiea fourth and Moanalua fifth.

McKinley's Bryce Takenaka won the individual championship with a nine-game total of 1,712 pins. Damien's Alika Vendiola (1,642) was second and Moanalua's Jared Apana (1,638) placed third.

Pearl City's girls held off Hawaii Baptist by 150 pins and was paced by Chelsi Morishige, who rolled a nine-game total of 1,620 pins and placed second individually after winning the state title a year ago. HBA's Shelby Suzuki finished first with 1,696 total pins. Punahou's Anastasia Yamamoto (1,531) was third. Moanalua placed third, Sacred Hearts fourth and Mililani fifth.
