Kamehameha too much for Mililani, 4-1

WAIPAHU - Kamehameha scored late in the second half then kept up the pressure on to beat Mililani, 4-1, Friday night in the semifinals of the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Division I state girls soccer tournament at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.

Sarah Lau and Janelle Stone score goals just before the half and the Warriors kept the scoring barrage on in the second half with goals by Kawaiualani Makue and Emma Young sandwiched by Mililani's Tia Furuta's only Trojans' goal.

"We asked them to have a complete game today," Kamehameha coach Missy Moore said "It was something we struggled with during the regular season: playing a full 80 minutes."

The Warriors (13-1-1), winners of seven state titles, their latest in 2012, will play 'Aiea at 7 p.m. Saturday for the Division I championship at the main stadium.

The Warriors used their height advantage to take away the Trojans' ground passing attack.

"We got out of position a few times and rightfully so," Mililani coach Ray Akiona said. "The ball was headed in the air longer that we've seen. Back and forth, back and forth. We just needed to play it at the feet a little bit. That wasn't the style today and we struggled with that."

The Trojans were battling the Warriors most of the first half before the Warriors scored twice near the close of the first half.

"We were going at it, going at it before we finally had a chance to put it in the goal," Kamehameha's Sarah Lau said. "Finally we got a chance to put it in the goal."

The Warriors are pleased to be returning to the title game after watching rival 'Iolani take it all last season.

"Last year was pretty devastating," Lau said. "But it just made more hungrier and now we have a chance tomorrow to win it."
