Website crashes hopefully thing of the past (for now)

As I'm sure most of you are very familiar with ScoringLive often getting unbearably slow and/or unavailable during stretches, most often when the info was wanted most.

Please know that it was just as frustrating for me as I'm sure as it was for you, and I basically gave up trying to count the number of hours spent trying to explore and implement solutions to try and quell the storm of traffic.

To make what would be a very long story short, we went from upgrading our servers, to trying a 'lite' version of our site, to finally making some very significant (and largely experimental) code and server configuration changes.

The end result was more than promising. At what we thought was a 'peak' period of traffic during the football season was a 'lite' version of our site able to withstand more than 2,000 concurrent visitors.

Flashing forward a bit, an interesting test of our configuration that we really didn't expect to execute came on Division I and II state football championship night, where we ran our site in its 'full version' and saw our traffic spike to well over 1,800 actives during the title games.

To my surprise, the site handled more than admirably, which wasn't something expected at all. Whether that means we will be able to go with our full version during football season next remains to be seen as of yet, but it is a definite possiblity.

So while we can't promise that website crashes are over for good, please know that we are constantly searching for ways to better our site's reliability and speed.
