The Kalaheo Mustangs remained unbeaten in the OIA Red East after defeating the visiting Farrington Governors, 51-32.

Kalaheo found success with its three point shooting and went 7-for-16 beyond the arc for the game.

Kalaheo head coach Alika Smith said, "Our starting five, everyone of them can shoot the ball. When we move the ball like that, that extra pass is huge because they are sitting there waiting for the ball in a nice comfortable spot. We shot the ball well tonight and that's what we look for each and every night."

Kalaheo led early and never trailed. They went up 13-2 after Kalei Zuttermeister, Shem Sukumaran and Kupa'a Harrison hit 3 pointers.

Jacob McEnroe ended Farrington's scoring drought and scored the team's only field goal in the first quarter, trailing 14-4.

Kalaheo continued the hot shooting into the second, going 3-for-4 from three-point land in the quarter.

Kalei Zuttermeister hit three pointer to go up 21-6, followed by Shem Sukumaran's triple to go up 26-8, and Josh Ko had a nice pull up three in transition to make it 29-10.

The Mustangs would lead at halftime, 33-14.

Last week, Farrington used its size and hammered the ball inside the paint against Roosevelt. "We knew it would be a tough game going in there, they are a lot more physical than we are. We tried to spread them out and use it to our success" said Smith.

Kalaheo's Kupa'a Harrison said, "We tried to match what they were doing. In practice our coaches wanted the second unit to play just as physical as they can just to push us to simulate what they were doing. We had guys that gave us a good look in practice and it really helped out."

Third quarter, Kalaheo's three point shooting cooled down and Farrington was able to cut into the lead. Kalaheo missed all five of their three point attempts in the quarter.

The Govs managed to outscore the Mustangs, 10-4. Jacob McEnroe, Tyler Liana, David Luatafasago and Mason Semisi contributed to the Farrington run.

Farrington's Semisi had an easy score from Luatafasago to trim the margin to 37-24.

Allan Silva, "We started running our offense and defense. We made a good run in the third quarter, but couldn't carry it into the fourth quarter. "Kalaheo is a very good team. It was their night tonight."

Smith said, "They (Farrington) turned it up and we weren't hitting shots. We didn't adjust the way we wanted to adjust. That's a testament to them coming out in the second half coming to pressure us."

In the fourth quarter, Kalaheo found a rhythm after a Josh Ko jumper and proceeded to blow it wide open, going up by 20 and never looked back.

"We had a lot of different guys in there and they stepped up. It was a total team effort and they worked hard this week" said Smith. 

Regarding the victory and moving forward, Kalaheo guard Silila Tucker said, "It's important just to make a statement, they are one of the better teams in the division. We can't take this for granted, we got to keep working."

Shem Sukumaran led the Mustangs with 12 points, Josh Ko added 11 and Kalei Zuttermeister and Derick Morgan scored 8 each.

Farrington's Jacob McEnroe led the Govs with 10 points.
