Klink's hat trick helps Kalani roll McKinley, 7-0
Kalani's Leo Klink advances the ball against McKinley. Greg Yamamoto | SLOn Senior Day, Kalani capped an undefeated regular season with four seniors accounting for each score in a 7-0 shutout of McKinley at Kalani HS field.
Leo Klink scored three times to lead the Falcons' attack, the first of his goals coming in the first minute of the game, as he placed a shot past the keeper into the right corner of the net.
The Falcons tacked on another score in the 12th minute, as senior midfielder Jarrett Hayama beat his defender and booted the ball off the left post and into the net.
Then, just seven minutes later, it was the senior Klink notching his second score of the afternoon, as he took a beautiful long pass from midfield and beat the charging keeper with a well-placed shot to net Kalani a 3-0 advantage.
Kalani was playing without usual starting goal keeper Shawn Donnelly, who was out with a concussion for the second straight game, but backups Michael Stafford and Joshua Baggett only saw two shots on goal all afternoon.
Two more goals were tacked on by the Falcons before the intermission, one coming off a cross by Kazuto Moribe that was deflected by the goalie but headed in off the ricochet by fullback Kent Uyehara.
Coming out of the second half, it was senior Kazuto Moribe knocking home the fifth goal of the afternoon in the 46th minute, wrapping a free kick around the wall of defenders in front him and past the keeper to give the Falcons a 6-0 edge.
Klink got his fourth hat trick of the season in the 52nd minute, charging down the left side past a McKinley defender and ripping a shot on the run that passed between the goalie's legs for the score.
The Falcons finished the OIA East regular season at 9-0-1, claiming the top seed out of the East in next week's OIA Red playoffs.
McKinley finished the year at 2-8.
