Mililani blanks Waianae, 4-0, to remain unbeaten

MILILANI - Preston Derige came in clutch for the Trojans as they went on to win a 4-0 victory over Waianae. The win Friday night at John Kauinana Stadium puts Mililani at 6-0-1 for the season.

"They played well," said Trojans head coach Jeff Yamamoto. "Think the coaching staff was pretty happy with the performance, especially the second half."

The game remained scoreless up until the 25th minute. Senior Preston Derige, coming off the bench, tapped a ball past the keeper into the back of the net to give the Trojans a 1-0 advantage.

"(Derige) He came in the clutch," said Yamamoto. "He put in some goals for us. He played well."

Barely a minute later, a cross from the left connected with Trojan's Ryan Carlomany. The senior finished the ball into the back of the net, putting the score at 2-0.

Both Derige and Carlomany are amongst the top ten scorers for Division 1.

"We worked hard for this," said Derige. "We played well but still need to improve."

Derige struck again later in the half, this time with one minute left to go on the clock. With a solo effort, Derige navigated his way through the Waianae defenders. The shot by Derige would sail just over the goalies fingers and into the top corner of the net.

The goal by Derige put the game at 3-0 going into halftime.

Senior Tyler Braunthal tacked on one more goal in the 60th minute.
