HALAWA - Daniel Reis passed for 268 yards and two touchdowns to lead Kapaa to a 27-26 non-league win over Kalani Saturday afternoon. The game was the first to be played on the newly-christened Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium and was the early matchup of the annual Father Bray Classic.

The Warriors, of the Kauai Interscholastic Federation, racked up 403 yards of total offense. The Falcons, of the Oahu Interscholastic Association's White Division, rallied from a 17-point deficit to pull within a point late.

Kapaa jumped out a 10-0 lead on a 1-yard Bronson Aiwohi touchdown run and a 33-yard field goal by T.J. West. The Warriors extended their lead midway through the second quarter on a 29-yard pass play from Reis to Aiwohi. West tacked on the PAT to make it a 17-0 lead. Aiwohi also carried eight times for 76 yards.

Kalani answered with a pair of scores in 63 seconds. Quarterback Shane Ra connected with Lorenzo Reeves on a 20-yard TD pass and following a fumble recovery by linebacker Keahi Aumua, Ra found Gavin Kim for a 49-yard score on the very next play. Kazuto Moribe's extra point cut the Warriors' lead to 17-14 just before halftime.

Kapaa scored on the opening possession of the second half to again take a two-score lead.

Reis found 230-pound Syndreck D'Sio on a screen pass in the left flat and the junior running back took it 59 yards to the end zone.  West converted his second field goal of the game - a 23-yarder - late in the third quarter to give the Warriors a 27-14 lead.

After Kalani's Ikona Mamiya picked off a Reis pass to start the fourth quarter, Ra connected with a wide-open Reeves on a post route for a 64-yard TD pass. The PAT was blocked to make it 27-20 with 11 minutes and 33 seconds left in the game. Reeves finished with game-highs of nine receptions for 133 yards.

The Falcons got the ball with 3:45 to play after a Kapaa fumble was recovered by Jonah Magnenat. A pass interference call against the Warriors on first down moved the ball to the Kapaa 27-yard line. Kim scored on a draw on the very next play  to make it 27-26 with 3:31 left. On the ensuing PAT, the Falcons opted to go for two, but Ra's pass - intended for Kim - was over his head and incomplete.

Kalani had one last chance to pull ahead when it got the ball back with 1:52 to play. However, the Falcons could only advance to their own 27-yard line before the time expired.

Ra, a sophomore, finished with 265 yards on 20 of 37 passing. Kim added seven grabs for 107 yards.
