No. 2 and second seeded Kamehameha-Kapalama broke out the bats in the first inning to roll past No. 6 Leilehua, 13-3, in five innings in the DataHouse/HHSAA Softball State Championships quarterfinals at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
The ILH champion Warriors (13-5 overall) make it to the semifinals for the second year in a row and face MIL champion Baldwin, who defeated Kapolei in walkoff fashion, 12-11, in the first game of the quarterfinals.
The Mules, who finished third in the OIA, end their season 13-5 overall.
Mariah Antoque was perfect from the plate going 4 for 4 with four RBI and plated three runs. Mikela Scarborough went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two runs driven in and Marley Espiau (2-for-4) plated four with a three RBI home run.
Antoque led off with a double, Mikela Scarborough sent a single to right and Mua Williams walked. The Warriors plated their first run off an error and Marley Espiau blasted a three RBI home run. Cambra walked and Haylie Reiny and Lexi Ahlo-Garcia followed up with base hits. Nikki Chong added a sacrifice fly and Kamehameha cycled through the lineup as Antoque and Scarborough drove in the sixth and seventh runs.
Reiny led off with a single and moved over on Ahlo-Garcia's sacrifice bunt. Chong walked and Antoque scored the baserunners with a double to left center. Leilehua went from Trinity Cabana-Rodrigues to BB Leong in the circle.
Cabana-Rodrigues was tagged with the loss, pitching 2 1/3 innings, scattering eight hits of the 10 runs, six were earned. Leong finished the game scattering five hits, two of the three runs were earned.
Kamehameha continued the hitting onslaught as Scarborough landed a single to center to plate Antoque. Williams added a base hit to shallow left and Espiau made it 11-0.
Ciara Fortuno broke up Peahi Grilho-Armitage's no-hit bid in the third inning as her hit went into left center.
The freshman pitcher (9-1) picked up the win pitching four innings, gave up one Leilehua hit.
The Mules scored their three runs in the fifth inning. Jessica Liu led off with a single and Maya Siufanua and Mere Ursua drew walks from Rylie Teramoto to load the bases. Cabana-Rodrigues reached on a fielder's choice as Williams could not turn the double play for the first run. Shazlynn Ancheta grounded past third to score Siufanua and Ursua.
Antoque homered to lead off the fifth and Scarborough added a single to right. Williams was hit by a pitch. Lucas and Espiau each flew out to center and an error on Liu ended the game as Scarborough came home.
Leilehua was seeking its first semifinal appearance since 2019 and won a state championship in 2018.
