Kalaheo, Nanakuli clinch White tournament berths

Kalaheo and Nanakuli clinched the final two berths for the O'ahu Interscholastic Association White tournament.

The Mustangs beat Roosevelt, 50-14, and Nanakuli beat Waialua, 22-14. Both improved to 5-3, tying them with Pearl City, also 5-3, which has a bye this weekend.

Each of the 5-3 teams beat one, but not the other. The next tie-breaker is wins against common opponents. It turns out Kalaheo's 21-20 win against Kaiser to start the regular season was the difference to eliminate Pearl City.

With one team eliminated, the tie-breaker goes back to head-to-head between Kalaheo and Nanakuli. The Mustangs won the regular season meeting to gain the third seed.

Kaiser (7-1) is the top seed and Radford (6-1), which plays Anuenue Saturday, clinched the second seed.

The four-team White tournament is set for Oct. 19 with Kaiser hosting Nanakuli and Kalaheo traveling to Radford. The winners advance to the championship on Nov. 2 and secure berths in the Division II state tournament.
