KANEOHE — Castle stayed perfect on the season by claiming a 5-1 win over Kahuku at Castle High's field Wednesday night.

The seventh-ranked Knights improved to 6-0 and pulled into a two-way tie for first place with No. 5 Moanalua (6-0) in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division standings.

Ninth-ranked Kahuku suffered its first loss of the season and dropped to 4-1-1.

Sophomore midfielder Bethanee Hanaike led Castle in the win with four of the five goals for the Knights.

"She (Hanaike) played extremely well," said Castle coach Millie Dydasco. "We've had to make some adjustments and send someone who are much more aggressive and physical up top and she is the one who can do it."

Hanaike started the game as a center midfielder before moving up top.

In the 22nd minute, sophomore midfielder Amaia Rivera played a through ball to Hanaike who hit a low shot just under Kahuku goalkeeper Shyanne Yates-Siilata to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.

Castle would add another goal just before halftime thanks to their leading goal scorer Ciana Rivera. Off a throw in from senior Jordyn Manzano, Rivera took the ball all the way downfield and beat Yates-Siilata with a shot from the outside of her boot to give the Knights a 2-0 lead. It was Rivera's seventh goal of the season.

Even though Yates-Siilata got scored on twice in the first half, she made five saves to keep the Red Raiders in the game. She would finish the night with a total of eight saves.

"Our keeper (Yates-Siilata) played outstanding tonight," said Kahuku coach Jay Hix. "She was under siege all night and she's undersized but she kept us in the game in the first half. She was awesome for us."

Castle had numerous chances to score in the first half but Kahuku's defense executed the offside trap a number of times to keep the Knights from scoring more.

"They (Kahuku) are the first team that played the offsides against us," Dydasco said. "We needed some time to adjust, but we have seasoned players on the team that know how to play against these types of strategies."

In the second half, the Knights scored early on to give them a 3-0 lead. In the 43rd minute, Hanaike out ran the Kahuku defense to score her second goal of the night.

The Red Raiders would respond quickly with a goal of their own a few moments later. Senior Jasity Cartwright found the back of the net in the 44th minute to cut the deficit down to 3-1.

Hanaike would get her hat trick in the 51st minute. She ran on to a ball played over the top by senior Tehani Smith and calmly finished it past the diving keeper. Hanaike would go on to score one more goal in the 65th minute to give her a total of four goals on the night. Amaia Rivera with her second assist for Hanaike.

Hanaike only scored one goal previously (against Kaiser), but now is the second leading scorer for the Knights with a total of five goals on the year.

"My teammates like to look for me when I'm up top," said Hanaike. "I like balls in the air and in front of me so I can run on to them. That's how I got passed the defense. I feel like I've gotten faster. The running that coach makes up do really helps me get in condition for the game and get those goals."

The Red Raiders were without some of their key starters in the contest. Seniors Taylor Marasco and Nohea Uluave were both away trying out for the Junior Olympic Rugby team and Madelyn Lopez broke her collarbone from playing rugby.

On Saturday, Castle will take on take on fellow undefeated Moanalua at Castle at 1:30 p.m. while Kahuku hosts Kaiser at 3:30 p.m.
