NUUANU—Rhianne Omori may only be 5-foot-2, but she stood tall under pressure as she poured in 28 points to lead No. 3 Maryknoll (13-2 ILH) past No. 4 Punahou (12-3 ILH), 61-59 in double overtime to clinch back-to-back Interscholastic League of Honolulu titles—their fifth overall, at Hawaii Baptist Academy's gym on Saturday night.

Less than 24 hours later, the Lady Spartans avenged last night's loss at Saint Louis.

"What a game by Rhianne, she had some big moments. What can you say, two points," said Maryknoll coach Chico Furtado.

The Lady Spartans also clinched the seeded berth and first round bye in the OC16 Girls Basketball Championships starting next week. The Buffanblu also clinched a spot in the state tournament and will play in the first round.

"It feels great, especially for our seniors. We weren't really nervous, we knew we got and we just had to play it out," said Omori.

Isabella Cravens and Chayse Milne each added nine points. Cravens also had four blocks for the game. Tyra Moe led Punahou with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Kamaile Kandiah scored 18 points and shot 10-for-12 from the free throw line.

Maryknoll got the ball back with just under 30 seconds and Omori dribbled time off the clock and drove. Her layup dropped in with a little over eight seconds as the Maryknoll community went wild. Punahou dribbled the ball near midcourt and called a timeout with 3.8 seconds. The Buffanblu got the ball to Moe, but she was called for traveling near the baseline with 0.6 seconds left. Maryknoll inbounded the ball to complete the celebration.

"I think tonight, we didn't settled for shots and we attacked the basket. Instead of avoiding contact, we tried to get our best to get that contact and it helped getting free throws," said Omori, who scored 12 of her 28 in both overtime periods.

Maryknoll trailed early in the fourth quarter, but used a 7-2 run to go up, 42-40. Elle Uyeda sank both foul shots to tie the game at 42. Milne's layup gave the Lady Spartans back the lead, however Moe's shot in the paint tied it at 44. Alexis Delovio drove it, but her shot was blocked by Moe. With 5.6 seconds Kandiah raced down court the was but her shot bounced off the rim heading into overtime.

"This team has always given effort and we faced a lot of adversity. I can't be more proud to have them give it their all every time. They'll bounce back," said Punahou coach Liz Kam.

Delovio fouled out 26 seconds into the overtime period. The Buffanblu did not make a field goal, but shot 9-for-10 from the free throw line to score all their points— Kandiah was 5-for-6. Kandiah and Omori traded free throws as Punahou led 52-51. Kandiah went to the line again, but went 1-for-2 to make it, 53-51.

"Kamaile is so poised. It looks like she's going to the basket so hard and looks out of control but she finds a way to finish," said Furtado.

Omori's layup tied the game at 53. Maryknoll managed to get the ball back after Kandiah turned it over, but Omori's runner was no good as the teams headed into a second overtime.

"I thought she got hit on the follow through, but we'll live with that. I told her I would rather see her get to the rim," said Furtado.

"When Alexis fouled out, it was big part of us after that I knew I had to get points. They were playing zone and there were a lot of gaps and he (coach Furtado) wanted us penetrate and that's what we did," said Omori, who shot 7-for-8 from the free throw line.

Maryknoll trailed, 55-54 after Moe's free throws. Omori's 3-point play gave the Lady Spartans back the lead, 57-55. Kandiah used Moe's screen and made a jumper to tie it at 57. Maryknoll called a full timeout and following the timeout, Milne found Cravens underneath the basket to make it, 59-57. Tyra Moe's basket in the paint tied the game at 59. With just over 30 seconds, Maryknoll looked to Omori, who did the rest.
