SALT LAKE — Chayse Milne scored 15 points to lead Maryknoll to a 59-43 win over Roosevelt on the third and final day of the 22nd Annual Moanalua Girls Basketball Peek Tournament Wednesday night.

The game featured the defending league champions from the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and Oahu Interscholastic and was also a rematch of February's Division I state third-place game, which the Spartans won, 60-48.

Nine different players scored for Maryknoll, which improved to 3-0 in the preseason. It defeated Campbell, 69-27, on Monday and tournament-host Moanalua, 79-29, Tuesday.

"I think we're OK," Spartans' coach Chico Furtado said when assessing his team's performance in the eight-team tournament. "Roosevelt is the defending OIA champs and they're usually at the top of the OIA. We've got a lot of returnees but we're still young with eight sophomores and a freshman."

Among the players that Maryknoll graduated last year were starters Kaile Cambra and All-Hawaii First Team post and ILH Player of the Year Maegan Martin.

"We got a lot of pieces to replace Kaile because of the guard play that we've got, (but) Maegan is going to be a little more difficult (to replace)," Furtado said. "We've got three players in the post now, but they're all sophomores, so it's going to take some time for them to develop."

Milne, a 5-foot-7 sophomore guard, did her part to fill the void on the offensive end of the floor, finishing as the lone Maryknoll player to score double figures. She did all of her damage in the first and third quarters. Milne drained a pair of 3-pointers and had eight points in the opening stanza and added seven in the third.

"She's starting to get an idea of what it means to run the point and be a little bit more selective in how she attacks things and then she had a couple 3's and shot the ball well, plus she's long and she's athletic," Furtado said of Milne, who mostly came off the bench as a freshman last season.

Alexis Delovio, a reigning First Team All-ILH pick, scored seven of her nine points in the first quarter. Lindsey Lee, the only other senior on the team aside from Delovio, and sophomore Rhianne Omori added seven points apiece.

Furtado said he anticipates his team being more guard-oriented than last season, for now anyway.

"I think so," said Furtado, who garnered ILH Coach of the Year honors in 2014-15. "Until our post guys get a little more productive (offensively) we're going to use them to board, defend the bucket and give us some toughness inside."

Maryknoll got a combined 21 points from its five post players. Kodee Viena led the way with six points, Kamalu Kamakawiwoole five, Moe Notoa four, Kehau Gilliland four and Isabella Cravens two.

"Moe made a couple of nice moves, but didn't always finish, Viena gives us some length, Kamakawiwoole gives us some length, so we're getting there, (but) the problem is that the ILH is so tough that once you get into league play there's no time to experiment already because every game is a tough game, so you've really got to get things straight now in the preseason."

Furtado has had to make amendments to his team's preseason slate due to unforeseen circumstances. The Spartans were set to take part in a tournament hosted by defending state champions Konawaena next weekend, but pulled out due to concerns stemming from the recent spread of dengue fever cases on the Big Island.

"Just looking at our preseason, we obviously don't want to play ILH teams and then our Kona trip got screwed up because we didn't want to go up there with the problems that they're having," Furtado said. "I was hoping to play Konawaena and Lahainaluna to get a real good measuring stick, but I like what we're doing. We've got to be a little more aggressive and more productive around the basket."

Aside from the first four minutes Wednesday night, the Spartans led the rest of the way and much of it was a double-digit lead. They outscored the Rough Riders in each quarter and led by as many as 17 points in the fourth.

"We missed way too many layups; this game should have been no doubt earlier, but it's a learning thing," Furtado said. "We can play, but we cannot miss layups. I counted 10 missed layups."

Senior forward Keala Quinlan, a First Team All-Hawaii selection last year who earlier this month signed with the University of Portland, scored a game-high 16 points to lead Roosevelt.

Ashley Kiko added 10 points for the Rough Riders, who fell to 2-1 in the preseason.
