MILILANI—No. 3 Mililani scored quick and often to knock out No. 10 Moanalua, 48-13 in the quarterfinals of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Playoffs at Mililani's John Kauinana Stadium on Saturday night. The Trojans advance to the semifinals and will play Waianae at Aloha Stadium on Oct. 23 in the first game.

Mililani won 60-36 earlier on Oct. 2 and just like the time both teams met, it was the same result.

"They are the best team in the state and it's hard to stop them. You have to play a perfect game and it's hard to stop them," said Moanalua coach Jason Cauley.

Mililani scored 35 points in the first quarter to put it away early. The Trojans struck first after Malepeai ran for a 70 yard touchdown 14 seconds into the game. Following a three-and-out, Malepeai added a 3-yard rushing touchdown. Dillon Gabriel scored on a keeper from 8 yards to make it 21-0.

"It starts up front and you have to credit the o-line and the o-line coaches for executing and opening up holes for Vae. The more experience the better for him, it's always good to have that lead," said Mililani coach Rod York.

Malepeai scored on a 46 and 44 yard touchdown to give the Trojans a commanding 35-0 lead after the first quarter. He had 203 rushing yards on eight carries in the first quarter and finished with 243 yards for the game.

"A lot of the touchdowns, I wasn't touched and credit not only the o-line, but the receivers were blocking too," said Malepeai. "We felt like we set the tone and we have to correct the mistakes so we can do better next week."

"Vavae is the best back in the state I've seen since I've been here," said Cauley.

Gabriel threw a 29-yard touchdown to Kalakaua Timoteo to make it 42-0.

At the 3:40 mark, Nehemiah Sauvao was hurt on a kickoff return that delayed the game after he was taken away in an ambulance.

Moanalua started on their own 32 and got on the scoreboard after Alakai Yuen threw a 26-yard touchdown to Rodson Kealohi. Justin Vaimoana recovered the onsides kick, seven plays later Yuen found Kaimi Kini for a 14-yard touchdown but the PAT try failed as the Na Menehune trailed, 42-13 going into halftime. Yuen threw for 153 yards.

"It was a successful season, the boys fought hard and they had some nice individual accomplishments with Michael and Alakai," said Cauley. "The middle of the season was rough, but we bounced back from it and the kids never quit. Every game was a tough game and we had a tough schedule."

Gabriel threw a 2-yard touchdown to Timoteo to make it 48-13 to initiate running clock.

The Mililani defense made life miserable for Yuen intercepting him four times and sacked him four times.

"That was the game plan. When he's sitting back there, he's comfortable and he's a dangerous guy. So we wanted him to move his feet and make him uncomfortable," said York.
