KANEOHE — Destiny Souza is making a habit of being in the right place at the right time.

Souza, a freshman midfielder, scored the game-winning goal in the eighth minute of overtime to lift Campbell to a 2-1 upset of Mililani in the semifinals of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Girls Soccer Tournament.

The Sabers, who are the third seed out of the Western Division in the 12-team tournament, avenged a 3-0 loss at Mililani less than three weeks ago. The win improved their record to 10-2-1 and puts them into Saturday's 7 p.m. tournament final, where they will play Moanalua, a 2-1 winner over Kahuku in the other semifinal.

A crowd of about 300 fans at Castle High School saw Campbell, ranked fifth in the ScoringLive/OC16 Girls Soccer Power Rankings, take an early lead on an eighth-minute goal by Kenna Sabino, allow a second-half goal by the West-champion Trojans before Souza put it away in extra time.

"We're just so blessed," Sabers' coach Randy Leong said. "The girls stayed positive and strong and never gave up. We told them to fight hard all the way until the last whistle blowed and they did that."

The ball deflected in the Mililani box a few times before Souza gathered it near the top of the 18-yard box on the left flank and put a well-placed shot into the top right corner of the goal, just past the outreached hands of Trojans' goalkeeper Andrea Kenagy.

"I saw the ball ricochet and I just had to shoot. It was all or nothing, right foot and everything," said Souza, a lefty. "It felt super good and it went right to the corner, with the wind."

It was Souza's fifth goal of the season and third in three days. She also scored twice in Campbell's 4-3 quarterfinal win over Kaiser Tuesday night.

In contrast to their last meeting, the Sabers took the Trojans out of their game in the first half. Forwards Jaelynn Chargualaf and Aliani Lorenzo constantly pressured the Mililani backline of defenders, while their midfielders more often than not won 50-50 balls to control much of the first-half possession.

"The difference was we used more of a  high press and we just moved forward knowing that we all played confident and just making sure we had each other's backs," said Lorenzo, who assisted on Sabino's goal. "We had to slow them down on their game and we had to come back and play our game, not their game."

The Sabers' defense got the job done, largely neutralizing Mililani's prolific scoring duo of Tia Furuta and Kailana Kaeo.

"This time around the defense, midfielders, offense, they knew they had to mark Tia, they had to mark Kailana — they're really good players, scorers, too — and we just practiced in practice that they had to keep an eye on them and know where they are at all times," Leong said.

Furuta did manage to score the Trojans' lone goal of the game, which tied it at 1 in the 66th minute.

"After that we had to regroup because when the momentum is going the other team's way we tend to breakdown, but we just told the girls that, 'We're the underdogs here, we've got nothing to lose, just play your hearts out," and that's what they did," Leong said.

Sabino's goal came as a surprise, as the Sabers were playing into a strong crosswind.

"Asia (Canon) had the ball and I did an overlap run, she saw me making my run and I just took the ball and right there I just dribbled it down and I just shot it and it ricocheted (off Sabino) and it went in the goal," Lorenzo said.

Goalkeeper Kiley Haraguchi made 11 saves for Campbell, while Kenagy made seven stops for the Trojans.

Mililani, which is ranked third in the SL/OC16 Power Rankings, fell to 10-1-1, and will play Kahuku in the third-place game, 7 p.m. Friday at Roosevelt's Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium.
