The Trojans concluded a perfect season with their first state football championship in school history Friday night. Quarterback McKenzie Milton passed for 421 yards and seven touchdowns — four to wide receiver Kalakaua Timoteo — and cornerback Ty Purcell-Apana notched a team-high seven tackles, returned a first-quarter interception for a state-record 83-yard touchdown and forced a fumble in the game's final minute to secure the victory.

Running back Wayne Taulapapa put forth a yeoman-like effort with 260 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 36 carries Friday. Taulapapa scored on runs of 20, 1 and 5 yards against Mililani and finished his junior season with 1,171 yards and 20 touchdowns. He averaged as astronomical 8.9 yards per rush on his 132 carries. The Buffanblu's 19-game win streak, which dated back to the start of the 2013 season, was snapped in the loss.

3. Kahuku (9-3)

After losing to Mililani in the championship game of the Oahu Interscholastic Association tournament, the Red Raiders rallied past Hilo in a state tournament first-round game on Nov. 7 and gave top-seeded Punahou a scare in a 13-10 semifinal loss eight days later. Defense led the way all season for Lee Leslie's bunch. The unit allowed an average of just under 14 points and 181 yards per game by opposing offenses. No opponent scored more than 20 points in a single game all year against Kahuku.

4. Saint Louis (6-4)

The Crusaders missed the state tournament for the fourth consecutive year since winning it all back in 2010. They lost their first three games of 2014 — to then-No. 2 Mililani, St. John Bosco of California — which is currently the nation's top-ranked team — and then-No. 1 Punahou, before reeling off six straight wins before ultimately falling to the Buffanblu in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu second-round finale on Oct. 24, 35-28.

5. Farrington (9-3)

The Governors are coming off their 10th state-tournament appearance after finishing third in the OIA tournament. They beat Campbell for the league's final state berth back on Nov. 1 and went on to defeat Maui Interscholastic League-champion Maui High in a state first-round game on Nov. 7, but dropped a narrow 17-14 decision to eventual state-champion Mililani in the semifinal round a week later. It was their second loss to the Trojans this season.

6. Kamehameha (5-3)

The Warriors' last game was more than five weeks ago, when they lost to Saint Louis 47-20 in the second round of the ILH regular-season. They opened the season back in late August with three straight wins, including a come-from-behind road victory over Northern California-power Del Oro. Kamehameha averaged just over 36 points and 447 yards per game offensively and notched a season-high 76 points in a win over Pac-Five back on Sept. 27. Its only losses came against Punahou and Saint Louis (twice).

7. Campbell (7-4)

The Sabers finished the regular season third in the OIA Division I Blue and narrowly missed qualifying for their second consecutive state tournament after a season-ending 31-19 loss to Farrington in the league's third-place game back on Nov. 1. They began 2014 by winning their first four games, but lost four of their final seven contests. The defense, which will be hit hard with the loss of several seniors, allowed just over 19 points and 236 yards per game this season.

8. Leilehua (6-2)

The Mules turned in the pads long ago after a 20-14 loss to Campbell in the quarterfinal round of the OIA tournament. They won their first five games on their schedule by an average margin of 29 points, but lost two of their final three and finished second in the OIA Division I Red. Leilehua will lose a considerable amount of its offensive production from this year to graduation. The unit averaged more than 35 points and 334 yards per game, including 257 through the air.

9. Waianae (5-4)

The Seariders weathered a tough early-season schedule that saw it start 1-2, including a pair of losses to Moanalua and Leilehua at Raymond Torii Field. They rebounded, however, by winning their next three games, including a 42-7 win over McKinley and a 43-0 blanking of Waipahu, but finishing the year by dropping of their final three contests. Waianae bowed out of the postseason with a 37-15 loss to Farrington on Oct. 17 in the league quarterfinal round.

10. Hilo (10-1)

The Vikings make their first-ever appearance in the Power Rankings after a respectable 20-10 loss to perennial-power Kahuku in a state tournament first-round game back on Nov. 7. They went unbeaten through Big Island Interscholastic Federation play to capture their second consecutive Division I league title and qualified for their second state tournament in as many years. Hilo's defense allowed an average of just over 8 points and 194 yards per game in 2014.
