MILILANI - Quarterback McKenzie Milton passed for 295 yards and running back Vavae Malepeai rushed for three touchdowns and No. 2 Mililani rolled Kailua, 49-7, Saturday night at John Kauinana Stadium.

The Trojans, second in the ScoringLive/OC 16 Division I Power Rankings, improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Blue. The Surfriders fell to 0-2 in a contest that went into the running clock in the second half. Mililani scored on its first six series in taking a 42-0 lead into the half.

"We're happy with the execution," Trojans' coach Rod York said. "These guys are focused. They understand what to do. They know how to get it done. They pay attention to detail and they listen to their coaches. They believe in what we tell them and the rest is just about executing."

The Trojans have scored 112 points in two games.

Milton completed 14 of 17 passes with two TD passes, both within the first four plays from scrimmage for the Trojans. He also had a 20-yard TD run. Malepeai rushed for 97 yards on 10 carries, scoring on runs of 1, 22 and 6 yards. Both did the bulk of their damage in the first half. Milton completed his first 12 passes for 257 yards.

"It's what we look forward to every week," Milton said. "Being able to play in front of our fans, in front of the community is a lot of fun."

It was 21-0 by the end of the first quarter. Twenty-two seconds into the game, the Trojans led on Milton's 78-yard TD pass to Kalakaua Timoteo, who had four catches for a game-leading 135 yards.

"Against a team like Mililani, you give up 21 points, 28 points, you dig yourself a hole and it's very hard to get out of," Kailua first-year coach Hauoli Wong said.

After Kailua punted, it took Mililani only three plays to score on Milton's 35-yard TD pass to Joshua Butac to make it 14-0 just 3:15 into the game.

Mililani scored on its third consecutive series on the first of Malepeai's TDs, a 1-yard run with 2:02 in the first quarter.

The second quarter was pretty much the same. After Malepeai ahd an apparent 34-yard TD run nullified by a holding penalty, he got it back two plays later on a 22-yard TD run

Kailua had its best series when it managed an 11-play, 43-yard drive that stalled at the Trojans' 37. The Trojans, still running hard, continued their assault with Milton scoring on a 20-yard run that made it 35-0.

The Trojans scored on their sixth series on Malepeai's 6-yard TD run with 36 seconds left in the half.

Mililani opened the second half with its reserves. Trojans' defensive lineman Rex Manu saw just the first half, but had two sacks.

Kailua got a break early in the fourth quarter when Mililani lost 25 yards on an errant snap in punt formation that gave the Surfriders the ball at the Trojans' 2. Tristan Futa scored on first down to pull Kailua to 42-7 with 9:57 in the game.

Backup Bryson Ventura, who started at QB in the second half, started the Trojans' ensuing series, but was replaced by Milton. It was a self-preservation move, York said. Ventura, who was 1 of 4 for nine yards passing, threw an ill-advised pass that exposed one of his receivers. Milton took over and led the final scoring drive with Cheyne Constantino scoring on a 1-yard run that capped the game at 49-7.

"For safety reasons, we had to bring our first-string guy back in," York said.

Kailua played without last week's starting QB Noah Auld, who had a concussion, Wong said.

Futa started at quarterback and Martin Tigilau also saw action under center.

The Trojans take their show on the road when they play at Kapolei (0-2) Saturday night. The Surfriders will host Aiea that same night.
