KAPOLEI — Ty-Noah Williams pitched a complete-game four-hitter and Dylan White and Jaryn Bulseco both had a couple of base hits to lead Kapolei to a 3-1 win over Waipahu Wednesday afternoon.

The Hurricanes snapped a two-game losing streak and avenged an earlier loss to the Marauders to improve to 4-7 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red West Conference.

"The difference this time is we finished," Kapolei coach Tom Ebanez said. "The last time we played them we lost at the end. This time we held the lead and we kept it."

The victory allows the Hurricanes to control their own destiny. The top six (of seven) teams in the division qualify for the OIA Red Tournament, which gets underway in two weeks. Kapolei plays last-place Pearl City (3-8) Saturday. A win assures them a playoff spot, while a loss would leave them needing a Mililani win over Aiea (4-7) to avoid elimination.

"This is the game to give us some momentum hopefully going into the playoffs, so it was a good win for us," said White, whose RBI-double to deep centerfield broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the third inning.

Williams, who was making his third start of the season, struck out six batters and walked just two.

"My cut-fastball was working really well today, but it was all for the seniors this week because it's their last week so everybody just tried to play hard for them," Williams said.

He allowed the only Waipahu run in the top of the third when Oakland Scanlan led off with a double and scored on a one-out bloop single by Jaron Sugimoto into short left field. Williams threw just 84 pitches, 54 of them for strikes.

"The thing I was most impressed about was he kept his composure, because he gets frustrated easily at times, but it's part of growing up and he matured today," Ebanez said of Williams, a sophomore right hander.

Kapolei didn't trail for long however, as it plated the tying and go-ahead runs in the bottom of the frame. Bulseco lined a one-out double to left and scored when Jordan Macias hit the first pitch he saw to center field.

"I already had a lot of confidence in my defense, but just with that extra boost I could let some pitches go and I knew that my defense had my back all the way," Williams said.

One batter later, White — who struck out with runners on second and third in the first inning — belted a ball over the head of Waipahu center fielder Rustin Ho to score Macias.

"I didn't want to strikeout again, so I just wanted to make contact and I hit that double," said White, one of five seniors honored during a post game ceremony. "At that point, we just needed to help Ty out, get some hits and score some runs."

It was the third multi-hit game of the season for White, who has five doubles and two home runs to his credit and is batting a hefty .429.

"Dylan's been hitting great, he's been our go-to guy the whole season," Ebanez said. "I can't say enough about the guy, he's having a heck of a season."

The Hurricanes got six hits off of Waipahu ace Dylan Sugimoto, who took the loss to fall to 3-2 on the year. Sugimoto, who has signed with San Jose State, was credited with two earned runs, struck out seven batters and walked one.

"We just wanted to touch ball, get him out of his rhythm, keep it going and just finish," White said of Sugimoto, a hard-throwing right-hander.

Kapolei added a run in the fourth inning when Kaimi Kalaola led off with a single, advanced to second on a balk, reached third on a fielding error by Sugimoto and scored on a throwing error by catcher Patrick Villanueva.

Waipahu, which dropped consecutive games for the first time all season to fall to 6-5, visits Leilehua (4-6) Friday in a 3:30 p.m. game at Howard K. Oda Field. Kapolei and Pearl City play at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park. That game is part of a televised doubleheader on OC16. Aiea and Mililani face off in the late game, which is projected to start at 6:15 p.m.
