Ramie steps down as KS-Kapalama head baseball coach

Long-time Kamehameha Schools Kapalama head varsity baseball coach, Vern Ramie, has resigned from his position with the school.

Ramie has been the head coach at Kamehameha since 1991, winning a state championship in 2003 and five Interscholastic League of Honolulu championships. He also led the Warriors to a total of five state title games and seven state semifinals. He has coached numerous players that went on to play collegiate and professional baseball, including major leaguers Dane Sardinha, Bronson Sardinha and Kanekoa Texeira.

The 1976 Kamehameha-Kapalama graduate was a standout baseball player at the University of Hawaii, before getting drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 12th round of the 1979 Major League Baseball draft. Ramie played four years of professional baseball, playing between A and AAA in the minor leagues.

Ramie was recently named recipient of the Chuck Leahey Award in 2013, an award given to a person who has made major lifetime contributions to the game of baseball in the state of Hawaii.

"Coach Ramie has given Kamehameha many years of dedicated service," said Associate Athletic Director Bob Benham. "His efforts to develop his student-athletes are greatly appreciated at Kamehameha."

A search for Ramie's replacement at Kamehameha-Kapalama will begin immediately.
