The Nanakuli Golden Hawks are forfeiting its non-league season opener against Kaiser because nearly half their players are academically ineligible.

Of the 33 players on the Golden Hawks, 17 to 18 players are available, but not enough of them are linemen, coach John Lopes said.

The next grade check is scheduled for Monday and Lopes said he is hopeful to have enough players for next week's Oahu Interscholastic Association White season opener against Waipahu.

The Kaiser game was scheduled for Friday at the Hawaii Kai school's campus.
