Football tournaments to open next weekend on three islands


The First Hawaiian Bank state football championships begin this weekend with games on three Neighbor Islands.

In Division I, Farrington will visit Kealakehe, 7 p.m. Friday, while Mililani travels to Maui's War Memorial Stadium to play Baldwin, 5 p.m. Friday. The latter will be televised on OC 16.

Defending state champion Kahuku and Punahou draw opening-round byes. They will open in the semifinals Nov. 16 at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium.

In Division II, OIA champion Radford will play Kauai, 3 p.m Saturday at Vidinha Stadium in Lihue, while Nanakuli will play at Konawaena, 7 p.m. Saturday.

Six-time Division II state champion Iolani and Lahainaluna draw first-round byes. Both will play semifinals Nov. 17 at Aloha Stadium.

The following are team histories in the tournament, which began in 1999 with Division II debuting in 2003.

Nanakuli is the only team making its state tournament debut.

Division I
