Punahou grad Suiter to sign with KU

Recent Punahou graduate Michael Suiter, an all-state outfielder, said he will sign a letter of intent to play at Kansas.

Suiter originally signed with Santa Clara, but when coach Mark O'Brien resigned last month, players were given the option to be released from their letters. That opened offers from other Division I schools.

"I got a nice offer from Kansas," said Suiter, who is playing in the Alaska Baseball League. "There are a lot of Hawaii boys going up there with me. It's a good opportunity."

He will join recent high school graduates, pitcher Robert Kahana of Campbell and infielder Justin Protacio of Mid-Pacific. Already at Kansas to play his second season is Punahou graduate Kaiana Eldredge.

Suiter is playing for the Mat-su Miners this summer.

"I'm definitely trying to learn as much as I can," he said. "It's a good experience."

Kahana and Eldredge are playing in the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League, while Protacio is playing for the Island Movers.
